I thought I loved Jenifer Lewis. Then I read her book and I became a worshiper.
I had the privilege of going to a very small gathering she was having at the Triad Theatre on W 72nd Street a couple days before her book was released. Maybe 50 of us. maybe. Marc Shaiman, Billy Porter, Shangela, Steven Cutts and Sasha Allen — the usual suspects. And Dana and I.
For two hours she told us stories from her book as well as stories that were left out of the book. she answered our questions and she posed some of her own. Marc Shaiman and I moved a piano together. It was gay dreams. We left with signed hardcovers.
Didn’t even have to High kick for mine! (Though I came prepared.)
